11/09/11 Stranahans batch 35

Aged for a minimum of 2 years in new charred oak casks the bottle proudly states.

And proud they should be. Rare for being an american single-malt, this whiskey is full of character. Raw cane sugar, vanilla, thumping oak, pecan pie, brandy cream, unmistakable barley.

Long sweet, nutty finish.

Probably the best ‘merkin whisk(e)y I’ve tried.

18/03/11 Edgefield

An enigma tonight, an American single-malt.

This is whisk(e)y pot-distilled at the Edgefield distillery in Troutdale, Oregon.

Apart from that, I don’t know anything about it!

I suspect it’s been matured in a new oak barrel, such is the strength of vanilla and oak. Sweet and slightly spicy, caramel (maybe slightly burnt) and rum-soaked raisins.

Disappointingly short finish but apart from that it’s really lovely.

3/5
