SMWS 105.18 Tormore

A 28yo sherry hoggie from Tormore tonight: “A dram for Santa”

It’s heavily spiced all right, tangy orange zest, milk chocolate and walnuts, powerful oak.

Needs a lot if water, probably 1:1 is the sweet spot for my palate. Here, it’s more delicate with some balancing dry fruit, lighter spices, tobacco, dry leaves.

An interesting dram, an enjoyable one but not really outstanding in any way.

2/5

28/10/11 Tormore 12yo

Tormore, near Grantown, is a surprisingly big distillery – 8 stills. I’ve seen one or two independent bottlings around but never tried it before.

Thanks again to Alex for the dram :)

A medium bodied dram, almonds, orange peel, fudge, buttered toast with a little honey, oats, maybe some dried fruit – there’s the sherry influence.

Water (about 20% seems right) helps, this is a very smooth and enjoyable dram, reminiscent of Glenmorangie in many ways.

3/5, no complaints.
