Tamdhu 26yo Adelphi cask 2836

Honey
Fresh pineapple
Roast pork crackling (slightly salty)
Subtle vanilla and ginger from the oak

With water, surprisingly, it gets a little sharper, slightly floral, slightly metallic.

A little burnt caramel on the finish, not acrid or unpleasant though, just a nice balancing foil to the oaky sweetness.

Rounded, smooth, full-bodied. A good example of a dram that’s probably more enjoyable at cask strength: 48.8%.

4/5, pretty damn good.

17/05/11 Tamdhu

A dram from a now-silent still, Tamdhu was closed and mothballed by Edrington last year. It was used, if I remember correctly, mostly for Famous Grouse.

This is a non-aged statement single malt, I’d guess around 6-7yo.

Orange zest, sweet floury cereal (oats) and vanilla fudge. Quite creamy milk chocolate on the palate and it’s got that silky smooth mouthfeel you’d get from really good milk chocolate. Pretty plain finish but tasty enough…it tastes of whisky! Cereal, honey, you know what I’m talking about.

A very worthy dram, not hugely exciting but I’d happily have a night on this stuff…

3/5.
