06/11/11 Drumguish 12yo
A few weeks ago I got an email from a mate with a list of his whiskies. We often swap whisky samples and Drumguish caught my eye because I’d never even heard of it before!
Turns out that it’s a brand name from the Speyside Distillery in Kingussie. Ingvar Ronde’s excellent Malt Whisky Yearbook tells me that it’s a fairly new distillery, built in 1962 but the first spirit didn’t run until 1990.
Sweet honeyed barley, slightly spicy, slightly nutty (macadamias?) Buttery, sugary fudge.
It all goes wrong though: thin and acidic on the (thankfully short) finish.
What a shame, such a lovely nose and the initial flavours on the palate are really promising.
2/5.
