10/10/11 Mannochmore 12yo

A fairly light bodied dram, grassy, a bit acidic, damp oak, raw barley. Short, bitter finish.

It feels an awful lot stronger than 43% and water does tame it a little.

Not really bad but not very enjoyable either.

30/05/11 SMWS 64.20 Mannochmore 8yo

A single-cask from Mannochmore tonight. An interesting distillery in that it only produces for 12 months then closes for another year before re-opening and beginning the cycle again. Glenlossie is the sister distillery and operates the same scheme, staggered annually with the same workforce.

Anyway, this is a rich sweet dram: Nutella is right, that thick and nutty chocolatey spread that my 4-year-old loves so much.

Lots of warm oak and a light touch of vanilla. Coffee (well, Mocha), over-ripe strawberries and slightly oily on the finish.

It’s really good, the palate doesn’t quite live up to the amazing nose but it’s a very enjoyable dram all the same.

3/5.
