Full-bodied, rich and sweet. Lots of oak, luscious, luxurious old sherry notes. Sponge cake, Toffee, vanilla, ginger. With water comes chocolate, walnuts and cherries.

07/07/11 Aultmore SMWS 73.34

Another SMWS single-cask tonight, this one is a 16yo refill bourbon cask.

Aultmore’s not well known for it’s single malt, most of the 3-million-odd litres that it distills each year goes into Dewars blends.

This one is pale magnolia and has a good weight of spirit.

Nose: limes, cut grass, a little fudge and some mint

Palate: sweet tropical fruit, honey, tinned fruit-salad syrup!

Finish: not the longest but sweet, almost like dessert wine.

It’s ok, it’s interesting whisky, would make a great long drink for a hot day with crushed ice and a little soda.
