A 9yo ex bourbon Auchentoshan single cask from www.smws.co.uk tonight.
Official tasting notes include grass, apples, fudge, maple syrup, strawberry laces and chilli chocolate.
Nose: pears, wet grass, macadamia nuts
Palate: acidic pear drops, seriously alcoholic, even with 50/50 water/uisge it still tastes of raw alcohol, almost clearick-like in fact.
(Clearick is the name given to the clear “white” spirit once distillation is complete. See Glenglassaugh Clearac!)
Finish: long, citric, powerful and refreshing
Balance: single minded, not the most complex dram I’ve had from SMWS I must admit.
