22/01/12 Feckin Spiced

Something really different tonight. Whisky snobs had better click away now…

It’s flavoured Irish whiskey, a blend I suspect. Obviously from Eire rather than Norn’Irn, otherwise it would be called Fockin’ Whiskey.

Orange peel, huge amounts of vanilla, pretty damn sweet. Toffee, some sweetened cinnamon (like a danish pastry).

It’s bottled at 35%, even at 40% it might have been better balanced. It really needs a bit more alcohol to try and counter some of the syrupy sweetness.

Straight, it’s quite palatable, very smooth and very easy to drink. You could certainly make some feckin decent cocktails with it.

23/11/11 Tullamore Dew 12yo

My first review of an Irish dram.

I’m not really familiar with Irish whiskey at all. Tried a few, generally enjoyed them but I’ve not even tasted one in the last couple of years.

Deep intense grain. Slightly grassy, some sherry fruit, toffee, oats, hazelnuts, light dry spices.

A very gentle, warming dram. Slightly oily, nice balance of sweet fruit and dry oak.

No complaints.

3/5.
