A re-taste tonight, the SMWS Croftengea, 16yo, refill bourbon. Only 79 bottles which is quite remarkable in itself.
Very savoury and spicy on the nose, barbecuey. That theme continues on the palate with a serious amount of smoke. It’s not that heavily peated though, more like coal embers as the name would suggest.
Water emphasises the smoke and spicy beef but brings along some almonds and hazelnuts.
Lovely long, mellow, citrussy sweet finish.
Much better when sober!
