09/10/11 Glenturret 10yo

Another dram from Glenturret tonight.

Light citrus fruit, groundnut oil, honey on toast, dry floury cereal, grapefruit, black pepper and sweet malt. Very oaky which brings vanilla and hazelnuts to the party. Decent length of finish and a silky mouthfeel.

Enjoyable, a very worthy dram but not quite as well integrated as the 8yo.

Still recommended though, I can’t imagine anyone could dislike it.

08/10/11 Glenturret 8yo

A previously untried single malt for me tonight, courtesy of a good whisky friend, slàinte Alex!

Glenturret is near Crieff and is home of the Famous Grouse Experience. They claim to be the oldest distillery in Scotland because there was an illicit still on the site as far back as 1775. Charlie Maclean wrote that local parish records stated that there were several stills in the region, dating back to 1717, possibly because of two nearby hills that gave an excellent vantage point for spying roving excisemen…

Medium weight spirit, even at 40%. Medium-bodied whisky too.

Almonds, orange zest, heather, sweet barley, some light spice, light honey, a little warming sweet waft of smoke.

A very pleasant young dram, actually I wouldn’t have guessed it was only 8yo if I was tasting blind. Nicely balanced and…competent.
