29/11/11 Glenmorangie Madeira Finish

Unedited tasting scribbles tonight:

——

Honey, honey, honey!

Buttery and oaky. Cinnamon. Toffee. Peanut butter.

More sweet honey. More heavy warming spices. Prunes. Almonds. Marzipan.

Serious oak on the finish, thumping. Long. Spiced. More honey. Some very subtle salty spirit?

——

Wow, what a beast. Not the most beautifully balanced dram but bloody tasty all the same.

4/5. Thanks to Alex for the dram. Cheers!

19/11/11 Glenmorangie Burgundy Finish

Very full bodied, rich and powerful juicy fruit (strawberries, plums, blackcurrants). Tannic. Soft and luxurious.

Perhaps not the most complex dram but by God it’s got a superb texture and a beautiful silky finish.

Thanks (again) to Alex for the sample. I’m going to try and get a bottle of this. A great “drinking” whisky.

Difficult to score, technically probably “only” a 3 but I like it more than that.

3.5

22/10/11 Glenmorangie Port Wood Finish

Glenmo Port Wood, 43%, OB.

Red wine gums. Milk chocolate. Very fruity, the port is young and ripe, rather than aged and creaky like some port-finished drams.

Strawberries, balsamic vinegar, black pepper, vanilla, cherries. Light spices.

A surprising dram, sweet yet still nicely balanced, smooth and classy.

3/5.

26/06/11 Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban

Glenmo tonight, 12yo (Bourbon then finished in ruby port casks.)

A beautiful golden rosé colour, it’s beautifully viscous with long, long legs.

The nose is quite complex with some wine, sweet red fruit, boozy trifle, cherry and milk chocolate. As it warms there’s a subtle touch of sweet warm tobacco.

Tasting is adds some citurs fruit, serious sweet cherries, a little vanilla, some spicy fruit cake.

46% alcohol, absolutely perfectly judged.

A very nicely balanced dram, i’m really enjoying it.

4/5.

18/05/11 Glenmorangie 10yo

Really juicy malted barley, sweet yet crispy, sharp yet mellow. Honey, oatcakes and vanilla custard.

Long, tingling finish.

I was totally unprepared for this, it’s a dram that shamefully slips below my radar. It’s really complex, It’s bloody good!

4/5
