About
Hi, if you’re reading this then I guess you want to know a bit more about me and my blog.
I’m Iain, I’m 31 and I’m an alcoholic. I’m not really. Honestly. Nope.
I’ve been drinking whisky for at least 13 years, properly tasting for 6 or 7 and collecting for about 4 years now.
I’ve got about 300 bottles, maybe 270 of which are open. I love Ardbeg, I love Glendronach, I love Mortlach and I love Highland Park. In fact, this could be a long list. I love whisky.
At the start of 2010 I contemplated a 365-dram blog, I got the idea from all the 365-song blogs and 365-photo blogs but had never heard of 365 drams. I never quite got round to it and that’s just as well because my collection definitely wasn’t up to it.
In 2011 I’ve become friends with the owner of my local whisky shop (in Aberdeen, check out http://www.aberdeenwhiskyshop.co.uk ) and my collection has grown substantially.
I score drams on a very simple structure. I don’t really see the virtue of a 100-point system, what’s the difference between a 90 and a 91? Really? No dram ever gets less than 60 so what’s the point in rating out of 100 when 40 (or 39 because nothing ever gets 100 either) would do?
The way I see it is that any whisky is worth drinking, preferable to brandy, vodka, rum or whatever. Therefore that is the starting point, that’s the definition of “1/5″ and it only gets better from there. See Balvenie Doublewood. I don’t rate it at all but have often drunk it… So, I have one category for whisky I don’t like and 4 different scores for whisky I do like – ranging from decent whisky (2/5) to bloody amazing (5/5).
I live about 3 miles from Ardmore, 12 from Glen Garioch and 15 from Glendronach. Dufftown is a half hour drive over the wonderful Cabrach.
Hope you enjoy it but I’m sorry to say, I’m going to enjoy it more.
Sláinte!
Iain
Oh, and as many have asked: yes, I do
have more than one a day!

UPDATE September.
Well, the blog is going well, I hope you are enjoying it. I certainly am
I’ve been asked a few times what I’ll do next year, when my 365 drams have been drammed.
Firstly, yes, I am going to continue but probably not every day. Perhaps every time I try a new dram.
I’ll continue to post bits of news, snippets that might be of interest, distillery visits, book and bar reviews.
I might even do a roundup of all of my 5/5 drams, maybe to try to narrow them down to a few of the very, very best.
What I’m not going to do is state the best dram of the year, I really don’t think I could. Well, actually, I probably could but it would change every day…
