22/10/11 Glenmorangie Port Wood Finish

Glenmo Port Wood, 43%, OB.

Red wine gums. Milk chocolate. Very fruity, the port is young and ripe, rather than aged and creaky like some port-finished drams.

Strawberries, balsamic vinegar, black pepper, vanilla, cherries. Light spices.

A surprising dram, sweet yet still nicely balanced, smooth and classy.

3/5.

Happy Birthday Aberdeen Whisky Shop!

A year old already!

Nick Sutherland set up his shop in October 2010, the first dedicated whisky shop in recent years.

I’ve lived up here for 15 years and in that time there have been or two short-lived independent off-licenses that have sold small ranges of whisky and the usual Oddbins/Victoria Wines/Haddows etc but, amazingly, given it’s proximity to Speyside, Aberdeen hasn’t had a proper whisky shop in that time.

Nick has a great range of drams (and Gin for that matter) and is an enthusiastic and very knowledgable host.

Slainte, here’s to many more years!
