28/05/11 JW Double Black
A night on Mojitos isn’t exactly doing my palate any favours so I’ve played a wildcard and a whisky buddy has stepped in with a guest-spot.
Sláinte Nat!
Johnnie Walker Black Label.
I’ll start off with, that for around £20 a bottle, I don’t think there is a better value for money whisky out there.
It isn’t the best whisky in the world in any one aspect, but it’s has an excellent spice, excellent fruit, a good measure of peat, very smooth, and ll round easier drink.
In fact it was my first ever whisky purchase.
Double Black;
I was lucky enought to be passing through JFK, and picked up a bottle of Double Black.
For reasons unknown to me, Diageo picked only 6 duty free shops in
Bangkok, Dubai, Beirut, JFK, Singapore and Sydney international airports to sell it.
On the nose, double black is like standard black label, but squared, much more smoke and peat.
Its less balanced with more smoke,and less grain, with a nice, long mature finish.
I’d go as far as saying that I prefer it to Black Label, but Black Label is easier to drink
