07/05/11 Glendronach 20yo Tawny Port

Going by number of bottles owned, Glendronach is my third most popular distillery (Ardbeg and Balvenie are number 1 and 2).

I’ve actually got quite a few single-casks that aren’t opened so expect to see quite a few Glendronach reviews over the next few months…

This is a single malt, released late in 2010 along with the Sauternes, Muscatel and Virgin Oak finishes.

On the nose it’s the sweet sherry, spicy and fruity that’s dominant.

Palate: Really powerful: dark chocolate, cherries, deep dark port and honey. Big whack of sweet, spicy sherry.

The finish is long and oily, more of the spicy dark fruit (think about christmassy spicy plum chutney) and walnuts.

I really like this dram, it’s full of character and dark, brooding, intense sweetness.

4/5
