03/05/11 SMWS 121.27 Arran

10yo sherry cask, 55.9%

Just a sample bottle, it’s not a 12″ Glencairn… Now there’s a marketing idea.

This was the dram that converted me to the SMWS and confirmed Arran as one of the finest distilleries in Scotland, certainly ranks in my top ten. Don’t ask by the way, listing them is going to take some thought.

Anyway, what a dram.

Marzipan, cherries, chocolate, earth, oak, vanilla. Water brings out some fresh cut grass and some beautifully sweet nuttiness. A really gentle soft sweet finish, slightly leathery and more dark chocolate and sweet malt.

A superb example of why single-casks can be so wonderful. Such complexity, such depth. Such class and such character.

5/5. But it’s finished :(

I’ve never seen tasting notes for this dram anywhere on t’interweb and nobody I know has tried it. If any of you have it (or have had it) I’d love to know what you think.

Sláinte!
