17/03/11 Balvenie 17yo SherryOak
One of my favourite 17yo Balvenie expressions tonight, SherryOak.
Stunningly rich and powerful sherry, spicy and sweet. High cocoa chocolate, cherries, fudge, plums, double cream.
It’s so juicy, my mouth bursts with saliva which no doubt helps in making the finish so gloriously long and fruity. There’s a tickle of rich sugary honey among the spices here too.
This is far better than I remember and I remember it being pretty damn good. Real Glendronach (18) country and far superior to Macallan 18 in my humble.
Not too sweet (still sweeter than Mortlach 16 though). Thick and chewy but not cloying. Hugely oaky on the finish.
Awesome, simply wonderful. I really can’t fault it.
