24/01/11 Dalwhinnie 15yo

Dalwhinnie 15yo, distillery bottling, 43% ABV.

Really malty malt this one. Slight waft of smoke and beautiful sweet barley on the nose. It really smells like an old-school maltings.

Honey, fudge and some more smoke on the palate. Really smooth whisky, almost to the point where it might even be a criticism. Not a dram to have if you’re in the mood for sensory overload in a glass but very enjoyable nonetheless.

The finish is sweet but pretty short. Unremarkable, really.

I’ve described this before as a great dram to give people who aren’t that keen on whisky and, to a certain extent, I still agree with that. It’s very inoffensive.

3/5, hard to get excited about I’m afraid. Possibly another case of a whisky being a bit too subtle for me. It gets fantastic reviews from the pro critics (if I remember correctly Jim Murray gave it 96/100!)
